Two weeks ago I had the delight of speaking to @creezonline and @ke4t about their new single It's Our Team with the legend that is @toddlat and the @bfporg. Today is the day that the Euros start and, though there's excitement (will it come home though?🤔), I remember the last Euros in 2021. I watched our Lions in the final (the FINAL!) with friends and was gutted that we didn't bring it home. But when I was walking home, I had a stark realisation that the 3 players who missed penalties - Saka, Rashford and Sancho - were all black and my heart sank with heaviness. "Surely, we're not going to do this again? Please say - hoping against hope - all the education from the summer of 2020 wasn't all lip service and we've learned?" I went straight to bed but on waking, the sickeningly predictable racist rubbish was all over social media and my heart hurt. There's already been some foolishness in the media at the weekend after the friendlies BUT, I'll remain hopeful and positive that we'll keep moving forward as a society and smash racism. A throwback to 2 weeks ago and a similar, sunny Saturday...A wonderful way to spend the morning speaking to the engaging and brilliant Ingrid Persaud about her second novel, "The Lost Love Songs of Boysie Singh". It was a relief to speak to her about it after being so emotionally invested when reading it. To do it all at the inaugural Kings Heath Literature and Music Festival was a treat and a privilege. The Heath Bookshop continue to blow me away with their fantastic events. 📚🎉📖Happy World Book Day!📚🎉 📖Growing up, I absolutely devoured books and practically lived at my local library. The invention of the 'smart' phone in adulthood reduced my attention span to that of a gnat and my reading time dwindled massively. Over lockdown, I decided to put an end to the brain rot (well, slow it a bit) and started intentionally reading again. I SO missed that wonderful feeling of getting completely lost in a story that you want to ignore phone calls or any other distractions until you finish. Also, that feeling of being inspired or - *gasp* learning something! There's something about slowing down to read that does the soul good. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot going for the smartphone, but I'm fighting to make room for the joy of reading to be back at the top spot.🏆 Being lucky enough to speak to amazing authors live or on air and read their inspiring, exciting, soul replenishing works has been a cherry on my literary cake!😊 🍰 Enjoy what's left of the day and happy reading!😉
